When you buy a watch you do not have to love the watch band that comes with it in most cases. Luckily, manufacturers of watch bands tend to have a myriad of choices that will fit your watch face. The watch band you choose is mostly based on appearances, but there are a couple of other points to be made when it comes to choosing the right band.
Comfort Choices
The number one concern when you look for a watch band should always be comfort. You want a band that will not pinch or irritate your skin. Since these are the prerequisites you should think about leather or nylon versus a metal band. Metal bands tend to irritate most wearers because they have to be linked together in order to make it long enough. The joints can pinch the skin or even the tiny hairs on your arm. With leather you have a band that will last a long time and comes in a variety of colors. The downside to leather and comfort comes in getting it wet. Leather isn’t meant to get wet, thus discomfort can result from a tightening of the band or even the leathery wet feeling can be more than you want. Nylon is the best band for comfort if you desire the watch to get wet like in swimming. It will not become restrictive.
Color Options
Leather and nylon will both offer numerous color choices in watch bands. For leather you should expect black, brown, tan, red, blue, yellow, and anything in between. It is up to you whether you like the leather colors, as some find them unnatural. Nylon can be formed into anything and any color. Purple, green, black, and every color in the rainbow can be created in a nylon band.
Size
Before buying your watch band after testing the comfort and color options you need to make sure it is the right size. Size is typically shown in centimeters. You want to have at least 2 holes in which to choose the size of the watch band. This allows you to have a little extra on the band in the event it might break or you need to adjust the size. When discussing size it is imperative to mention the springs need to be the proper length to fit on the watch face. It can also mean the difference between a wide and narrow band, though you might find a band which will taper down after the larger spring. You could also buy the proper springs and just replace it with a narrower band if that is your preference. The trouble with having a narrow band with springs meant for a larger band is stress. The stress placed on the band springs could cause them to break or fall out.
The last consideration for watch bands is cost. A nylon band will be less expensive than leather or metal, but you have to choose the band based on comfort, size, and color that best fits your budget requirements.
